Jazz and all things Gatsby..

When Joo-Lee from Lindy Jazz called me to ask if I'd come on board to capture her and her dancers, I couldn't resist. Her dancers were asked to welcome the launch of The Great Gatsby film down at the Tyneside Theatre, and she wanted me to take some pictures and capture them in their element.
 Previously, Joo-Lee and Gillian from Lindy Jazz called into the studio to get some Pin-Up style shots taken, and with the laughs and giggles throughout, when finished they were thrilled with the finished outcome we had together created. You can imagine, as with all clients, I was delighted when they  came back for more, and so for this on-location shoot, I risked my favourite lenses as well as limbs to catch the Lindy Jazz dancers strutting their stuff to the 1920's beat.

Beccy & Darren's Sunshine Wedding at Rockliffe

I spoke with Beccy a couple times in the run up to the Wedding - Saturday 15th June 2013.  But due to Darren's schedule we all met just a few days before the Wedding Day itself.  I was pleased to meet them and answer all last minute questions about the day.  They were pretty chilled -as a couple about to tie the knot- so I had a feeling that their day was going to be Relaxed, Fun-filled and jubilant.

With the ceremony complete at St Mary's Church in Acklam, we all headed down to Rockliffe Hall.  Not only were the couple of the day full of happiness and cheer, their very cool vicar told me she had to reschedule the rehearsal in order to spend the night rocking out with Mr Jovi.  Exceedingly cool!

Here at Rockliffe, the Bridal Party and all of their guests were happy to indulge my musings.  Here we created my interpretation of a Haribo Fizz ad.  Just look at those shapes!

We got Flower Girl Sienna to keep those boys in line in this shot.  I asked all of the men to look at Sienna, thinking we'd get a cute picture.  She didn't like my idea and instead went for the tongue pose, much to all of our amusement. A priceless moment.

Inspired by our Vicar's recent venture, we all went for the rocking out wave pose (minus lighters).  I was thrilled to see all guests took part.  A real cracking bunch.  Whatsmore, the sun shone brightly especially for us.

After dining, guests (and myself) were thoroughly entertained with the speeches.

Here Darren re-counts the story of how he met Beccy.  She carries off embarrassment with grace.  I'm not going to tell the story here!











Beccy's brother Graeme gave her away.  His speech was very heart-felt and I think he certainly did her proud.
















Darren's cousin Gary was an excellent best man.  Incorporating a sweepstake into the timing of his "much-awaited" speech, he had the crowd in the palm of his hand.  Animated, and liberal with stories about Darren, we all learned about tales of cars and nights out on the town.  (I'll leave it there Darren ey?)

As well as being a photographer, I'm also engaged. In my spare time I love to look through the growing array of Wedding Inspiration blogs. These inspirations can be from world wide sources such as Style Me Pretty in the US, through to more local inspirations, such as Brides Up North. 

Currently there appears to be a growing trend developing from across the water in having more 'stylised' weddings, and themes are becoming the forefront of the trend setting brides. 

Therefore, I grasped this opportunity with both hands- what could be more inspirational than creating a thematic Bridal shoot with local businesses? 

With all things Deco being the height of popularity currently, I teamed up with Anh Mao from Mao Couture (http://www.maocouturebridal.co.uk), new wedding venue The Theatre Royal, and Nic and Marie from ND Make Up.

 Together we created an 'Old Hollywood' Deco style body of work.

 Pearman Photography is now privileged to be one of the Theatre Royal's recommended wedding photographers.

It was a privilege being able to capture "Wear Your Sunday Best"during Fashion Week. Occurring during the week of 12th May, the event both attracted and involved a large number of businesses from around the North East, which was great to work along side them. 

I would like to extend a massive thank you to all the models who participated and did a fabulous job and also to the student support team who helped me in finding props to decorate the venue.

A Blog to Becca and Dean

I was thrilled when Becca and Dean asked me to share their wedding day.

For a while now I regularly attend the friendliest salon I've been to: Faceworks NE based in Wallsend.  Visiting this as a client I'm always catching up with the family team that run it.  Lesley, owner of Faceworks and her daughter Becca do treatments, and Dean is involved with running the office side of things.  Having had treatments from both Mother and Daughter team I soon knew that Becca was planning on marrying her teen sweetheart Dean.  Naturally I was wholeheartedly on board when I found out they wanted Pearman Photography to capture the day.

Becca and Dean already have two beautiful babies.  Jake who is 2 1/2 and Faith, their new arrival at 4 months.  To get the couple used to having their picture taken we had a lively family shoot session in the studio.  Not only did we work on getting some lovely family portraits, I got to play an excellent game of balloons with Jake, as well as catch some great moments with Faith - I love being anyones first official photographer.  With another trip out to the venue's Dean and Becca had chosen, we were all fully prepped on the way in which the day would go. 

I arrived at the Salon to the hub bub of wedding preparations.  Its common to see the full array of emotions when a Wedding is approaching.  As well as getting photographs to save these little memories, I always try to be an extra pair of hands.  From last minute sewing, helping with button holes and flowers to the key moment of the bride putting on her dress, we had lots of laughs and excitement.  Jake helped out too with entertaining his baby sister so Mammy could get ready, to even performing Prince Charming responsibilities like putting on her wedding shoes.

Becca - Ready to Rock

I shared a chariot to the Registry office with Becca's Mam Lesley.  In true geordie fashion, the taxi driver and Lesley knew each other from "way back", so as well as excited talk of the day ahead, I was  "given the skinny" and shared some laughs.

Last minute guests were ushered in, and the ceremony began.  Lesley had predicted "Becca was a Cryer", and sure enough emotions ran high as the walk up the aisle hit home.  Nevertheless, a demure and graceful Bride she remained.

 With the subsidised nerves and initial tears, I can report she fitted in some beaming smiles and giggles as well.

With the official part completed, the time was right for catching those celebrationary family and friends pictures.

We'd agreed to take a moment from the day for Becca and Dean to get some photography of just the two of them.  As well as a great opportunity to document the Bride and Groom in their blissful 'just-married-state', it's always a great chance for them each to catch a breath in a moment of calm in the midst of their whirlwind day.

Spring has Sprung.  The snowdrops and new foliage, reflecting the new period in Becca and Dean's lives.

Clear Blue Skies all the way.  We joked that the two of them would return to this bench on anniversary days.

I bet they stick to it. 

And so freshly married, the couple head off to their Wedding Reception.

Raising a metophorical glass, I wish you both huge Congratulations, and Good Luck in your lives together.

Valentines Pin Ups

What a month it has been! 
I set about coming up with an alternative sexy shoot theme to pass onto the Pearman Photography  clients for the romantic month of February.  I personally HATE boudoir photography.  For me it evokes notions of oiled up women doing tacky poses, in bad lighting, throughout the 80's & 90’s. 

  










As I'm always aiming to be innovative, I simply had to evolve the theme.
The age of 50’s Rockabilly chic is pretty established as an aspect of fashion.  The big hair, the winged eyes, and trashy vibe entered into a mainstream in fashion with the rise and fall of the legend Miss Winehouse.   Although I love this style, I didn’t want to be too safe and obvious.

I wanted to give my February Valentines shoot’s something a bit different.  Over Christmas I watched the entire Band of Brothers box-set.  I loved the accuracy of the interpretation of the 1940’s and this began to formulate my idea further.  The Pin up was an art form that boomed in WW2.  Soldiers painted beautiful women on the sides of their planes for luck, and the art-form was an indulgence for soldiers missing their women at home.

Recently with Burlesque trends, this vibe has come back into the forefront of styling.  What I love the most about this style is that the whole thing was based around women who were not at all real.  They were illustrated.  Their proportions defy science, similar to all of our magazines on the shelves today.  Instead of using a pencil to draw out our ideal woman, we use Photoshop!

So by taking inspiration from the 1940’s illustrated women, I wanted to offer today’s Newcastle ladies the chance to come and have a photo-shoot, where they had the opportunity to style it in line with who they are.  We’d then work together to add the more fantastical appeal by playing around with technology of air-brushing and retouching.  Before I started shouting about this for Valentines day, I had to test it.  So I invited some bloggers along.   



Amy Lord from Ten Penny Dreams has a great blog, she is an aspiring writer, and uses her blog to document her route to becoming a full time writer.  She attended the Blogcademy down in London recently hosted by famous bloggers Kat Williams, Gala Darling and Shauna Haider.  After chatting with Amy I was impressed that she is very disciplined in her blogging.  At 4 times a week, she puts my monthly posts to shame.  Amy wanted to do something more along the lines of housewife chic with her shoot.  Here is a small selection of what we created together.

Next up was Sandra Tang.  I met Sandra at The House of Seduction Fashion show event I covered this month at Newcastle’s Fat Buddha.  You can see their blog about my work on this night here.  Not only does Sandra live and breathe fashion, she organizes Newcastle’s Fashion Week.  Sandra naturally brought a much more fashionista take to the brief of 1940’s pin up.  Her first “piece” to wear was a fabulous suit that a friend of her’s had kept aside especially for her at a house clearance.  These are obviously the people you need to know to get your hands on the authentic items! Sandra blogs about all things fashion every couple of days.  Here is her blog about coming to the studio.

With these two already very different takes on my brief, I knew that this could evolve into something more along the lines of a long-term project.  So I have decided to keep it in the mix as something available from the studio on an ongoing basis.  In the next few weeks I’ll be welcoming a pin up cyclist to the studio, a pin up medium and even a pin up with a pet puppy!  I can’t wait.
